Managing
Unusual Situations
In this section, a selection of interactive
case studies that spotlight difficult or unusual clinical
situations involving nutrition care are presented. The
cases are real and represent the actual clinical situations
in which they occurred.
We provide
these case studies to help stimulate the diagnostic
skills and thought processes of clinicians by simulating
actual patient data over time. We encourage you to participate
by reviewing the provided patient histories and making
clinical decisions based on the available information.
As is often
the case in clinical practice, you may confront incomplete
information, inaccuracies in patient histories, and
non-relevant data from which sound clinical judgments
need to be made. We will collect the information provided
by you and your colleagues, then provide updates on
the range of responses. We will keep all answers and
comments strictly and totally confidential. Since these
diagnostic challenges are to be used only for educational
purposes, we are not requesting any personal information
to be submitted along with your diagnosis. We are indebted
to the clinicians who have graciously committed their
time and energy to provide the featured case studies.
Without their cooperation, the benefits of this section
would be greatly diminished.
